Big W goes retro with $70 dupes of a $3,000 vintage designer lamp

Adding designer accessories can really elevate your home decor, but it’s hard to decorate your entire home exclusively with originals.

Luckily, Australian retailer Big W is helping hard-working families get the look they want without breaking the bank.

The original Atollo lamp was designed by Italian architect Vico Magistretti and won the famous Compasso D’Oro design award in 1979, but will cost you over $3,000.

Although there are Australian retailers that offer great copies for around $250, sometimes even a reasonably priced copy can be out of your budget.

So Big W has taken on the retro trend and added the metal mushroom lamp to its latest line of housewares, for just $70.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has even endorsed the retro decor trend.

“The design of the 1960s and 1970s is back” Chay Costello, associate director of merchandising at MoMA, told the Wall Street Journal.
