Brown Appoints Carin Fujisaki Associate Judge of Court of Appeal

SACRAMENTO – Governor Jerry Brown announced on October 26 the appointment of Carin T. Fujisaki, 59, of Walnut Creek as Associate Judge, Division 3 of the 1st District Court of Appeal.
Fujisaki has been Senior Counsel to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California since 2015, where she served as Judicial Staff Lawyer from 1991 to 2014 and Staff Lawyer from 1990 to 1991.
She was a partner with Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Robertson and Falk from 1986 to 1990 and a research lawyer in the San Francisco County Superior Court from 1985 to 1986.
Fujisaki received a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA.
It fills the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Peter J. Siggins to the post of Presiding Judge, Division 3 of the 1st District Court of Appeal.
This post must be confirmed by the Judicial Appointments Commission. The Commission is composed of Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Chief Presiding Judge J. Anthony Kline. Fujisaki is a Democrat.

Jana M. Seng, 43, of South Pasadena has been appointed a judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Since 2016, she has served as Deputy Chief of the Los Angeles County Office of the Deputy Public Defender, where she has served as the Deputy Public Advocate since 2005. She was Deputy Public Advocate in the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office from 2002 to 2005.
Seng received a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from CSU Long Beach. It fills the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Halim Dhanidina to the Court of Appeal. Seng is a Democrat.
Jason B. Chin, 42, of Alameda, has been appointed a judge of the Alameda County Superior Court. He has served as Assistant Attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office since 2004. He served as Assistant Attorney General in the California Department of Justice, Attorney General’s Office in 2011.
Chin holds a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from UC San Diego. It fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Vernon K. Nakahara. Chin is taped without party preference.
