Bungie’s Associate Weapons Designer Confirms Future Destiny 2 Weapon and Perk Changes
Destiny 2 and perks have always gone hand in hand, because getting a weapon means getting proper perks for an activity. Each weapon comes with more than one type, consisting of barrel or scope, as well as magazine types and unique traits in the last two columns. Bungie has been very active in releasing new perks over the seasons as players have gotten great additions over time.
In a recent interview on Fate Massive Chess with Bungie’s associate weapons designer, Mercules, the latter explained how he’s planning various changes. Some even include significant permanent sandbox updates, while others are still in development.
Destiny 2’s old raid and dungeon weapons will get new perks and traits over time
The Destiny 2 database is full of weapons in four different rarities. Of these, players mostly use the Legendary and Exotic types, as they offer unique and powerful perks.
Some of these gears are locked behind endgame content, like raids and dungeons, that have lost touch due to outdated perk combos.
In the interview, Merculer touched on many topics regarding the future of weapons in the game. He talked about how Bungie has been actively iterating on many things, as seen in the latest Destiny 2 TWAB.
However, one of the most important things was his statement about old weapons and perks. Mercle said:
“Older raid and dungeon weapons will get refreshes to original perks and traits at some point in the future.”
For example, old weapons such as Fatebringer from Vault of Glass or Chattering Bone from Last Wish do not have an origin trait associated with their normal perks. However, the latest Vow of the Disciple drops legendary weapons with the original trait called “Souldrinker”.
Adding to this, Mercules also said:
“Changes to combat-style mod systems (Warmind Cell, CWL, Elemental Well) are coming to Nightfall.”
He further added:
“Several per-column perks for crafted weapons are being worked on and proving very difficult, so no concrete plans yet. Aggressive fusion is (almost definitely) being ignored. There may be something that’s going on” builds on the lesson learned with them”.
The whole concept of the original traits was introduced in The Witch Queen expansion, which pretty much moved a lot of meta into the game. obsolete due to lack of additional benefits.
