Graphic Designer – Creative Services

The Office of Creative Services at Gardner-Webb University is a division of University Communications and Marketing. Our creative team manages the University brand, builds customer and supplier relationships, and produces a variety of University materials. We are looking for a graphic designer to join our team.
Job Summary:
The Graphic Designer is a full-time Exempt Member of Creative Services and is responsible for the conceptualization, design and production of academic materials, under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Marketing/Creative Director. This process involves developing graphic design solutions, assisting with photo shoots, determining print specifications and obtaining print quotes, selecting vendors, preparing files for printing and digital output, managing the production and delivery of projects, and collaborating with clients and team members to produce materials that adhere to University brand standards and support the messages, vision and the goals of the University. Typical projects include, but are not limited to, academic publications, mailings, billboards, advertisements, logo design, promotional items and digital banners, plus a range of others marketing and campaign materials.
The graphic designer’s ability to work independently, as well as in a team, coupled with strong project management skills and a drive to achieve excellence are essential for this position.
The position will be based in both Charlotte, NC, the Charlotte campus of Gardner-Webb University, and the university’s main campus in Boiling Springs, NC. The allocation of time between these locations will be determined by the Associate Vice President for Marketing/Creative Director.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design
• 5 to 7 years of professional experience in graphic design
• Experience working in a Mac OS environment
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of the print production process, preparing files for printing and requesting printing estimates
• Understanding of digital design and production (social media graphics, website banners, digital signage, etc.)
• Experience working with creative teams, clients and vendors
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and customer service skills
• Excellent sense of color, composition, typography and photo editing
• Commitment to quality, accuracy and attention to detail
• Exceptional organizational skills with strong initiative and follow through
• Ability to work within brand guidelines, conceptualize projects, articulate design solutions, manage and prioritize concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment, troubleshoot technical and production issues. printing, meeting deadlines and maintaining electronic work files and work jackets
• Experience in higher education is useful
• Photography skills are a plus
