Judge Lizbeth González, a proud SBU alumnus, was recently elevated to the Appellate Division, First Department, by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Previously, she served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Appellate Warrant, First Department, a position she held since July 2016, and Supreme Court Justice, Civil Branch, a position to which she was elected in Bronx County. from January 2016. .
Prior to these positions, she served as an Acting Supreme Court Justice for the Civil Branch of the Bronx County Supreme Court from 2011 to 2015. She also served as a Judge for the New York Civil Court from 2005 to 2010 and as a Judge for the housing portion of NYC. Civil court from 1999 to 2004.
Judge González served as assistant attorney general for the NYS Law Department from 1990 to 1995, associate company attorney for the NYC Law Department from 1987 to 1990, and senior counsel for MFY Legal Services from 1980 to 1986. She earned a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA in Anthropology from Stony Brook University. Several of his Stony Brook interns have attended law school, passed the bar exam, and are awaiting admission to the bar.
