Jared Leto to play late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in biopic, says “He was a real polymath, an artist…”

‘Requiem for a Dream’ actor Jared Leto will star in a film about famed draper Karl Lagerfeld.
Leto may even co-produce the as-yet-untitled film with Lagerfeld’s House of Karl Lagerfeld. Leto will produce alongside his associate, Emma Ludbrook, through their production company Paradox, Deadline Experiences.
The late fashion icon’s trusted confidants Pier Paolo Righi, Caroline Lebar and S’bastien Jondeau will team up as executive producers on the film. For more than 35 years, Caroline Lebar worked closely with Lagerfeld as an advisor for her brand and private communications, while Pier Paolo Righi was CEO of Lagerfeld for more than 10 years.
Sébastien Jondeau spent 20 years as the designer’s private assistant and bodyguard, and continues his collaboration with the model immediately as a style advisor.
“Karl has always been an inspiration to me,” Jared Leto said as quoted by Deadline. “He was a true polymath, an artist, an innovator, a leader and, above all, a kind man. When we came together with Karl Lagerfeld’s team, we immediately shared a creative vision to make a respectful ode to Karl while pushing the artistic boundaries of what a biopic can be. I’m so grateful to Karo, Pier and Seb for allowing us to take this journey together.”
Deadline also indicates that the precise script is currently below the envelopes, although the film will cover important relationships in Lagerfeld’s life, taught through an unpredictable lens, very similar to the person himself. The producers are currently in dialogue with the filmmakers.
