New York’s High Line designer Patrick Cullina will speak

Patrick Cullina
Award-winning horticulturist and landscape designer Patrick Cullina will present “Effective Strategies for Creating Vibrant, Diverse Plant-Based Landscapes” on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education, 300 W. Market St., Kingsport. In this lively and illustrated talk, Cullina, best known for his work on New York’s High Line and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, will discuss the role of plants and their different ecologies as elements and inspiration for successful dynamic landscapes. Patrick Cullina is an award-winning horticulturist, author, landscaper, photographer, speaker and organizational consultant with over 20 years of landscape experience. He runs a Manhattan-based design and consulting firm dedicated to the innovative and sensible integration of plants and materials into a diverse range of compelling designs – drawing inspiration from both the natural world and built environments. Previously, he was the founding vice president of horticulture and park operations for the High Line of New York; vice president of horticulture, operations and scientific research at Brooklyn Botanic Garden; and the Associate Director of Rutgers University Gardens in affiliation with the school’s Department of Landscape Architecture.

Throughout her career, Cullina has consulted and advised for an array of public and private clients and projects and has lectured in the United States and abroad for universities, public gardens, garden clubs , horticultural organizations, museums, libraries and professional organizations on the subjects. plants, living environments, horticulture, landscaping, landscape maintenance and urban experience.
