On Wednesday, two terrorists were shot dead during a clash with security forces in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir. One of the ultras killed was implicated in the murder of a bank manager in Kulgam earlier this month, police said.
The terrorists, killed in the encounter which broke out in the Kanjiular district of Shopian, have been identified as Jan Mohammad Lone and his associate Tufail Gunai. Both belonged to the outlawed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taibaaccording to the Kashmir area police.
One of the terrorists killed has been identified as Shopian’s Jan Mohd Lone. Apart from other terrorist crimes, he was involved in the recent murder of bank manager Vijay Kumar on June 2 in Kulgam district,” CEO Dilbagh Singh told India Today.
Bank manager Vijay Kumar, a resident of Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, worked in Kulgam district. He was shot dead by terrorists in broad daylight on June 2, amid a spike in targeted killings in the valley in recent times.
In another ongoing encounter in the Kujar village of Kulgam Today security forces nabbed a terrorist suspected of involvement in the murder of schoolteacher Rajni Bala. The 36-year-old man was shot dead by terrorists in the Gopalpora district of Kulgam June 8.
The encounter in Kujar started on Tuesday evening and during the first firefight, the terrorists managed to escape, IGP Kashmir said. Security forces intensified the search early in the morning today. The hiding militants were located and again engaged in a firefight.
On Tuesday, two LeT terrorists, including a Pakistani national, were killed in a clash with security forces in the Bemina area of Srinagar.
