What is an Associate Degree?

Choosing a program and field of study is an important, and often daunting, decision. You may find yourself in a position where different opportunities present themselves and you don’t know which path best suits your needs.
In this sense, you may also find yourself attracted to one specific area of study more than another. Having the chance to explore your interest in the pursuit of knowledge is the beauty of education, both in college and university.
Associate degrees and how they can help you
The Associate’s Degree is a two-year undergraduate program that will prepare you with the experience and knowledge you need to transition to college or enter the workforce directly.
This program consists of 60 to 64 credit hours that you must complete. This is part of the full 4-year undergraduate degree you can take at a university.
If you are an international student, you can also apply for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after you complete your associate degree. Many of our students apply for their PGWP after graduation, and many decide to work on campus while studying.
If you are interested in working while studying, the associate degree program offers flexibility for work and study. Students enrolled in an associate’s degree program may work off-campus up to 20-40 hours per week, as long as you maintain full-time enrollment at Alexander College.

Associate of Arts and Associate of Science
At Alexander College, we offer two types of Associate degrees: Associate in Science and Associate in Arts. In both of these associate degree programs, you can choose from a variety of study concentrations.
Associate of Arts
In the Associate of Arts program, you will broaden your knowledge in the Faculty of Arts, focusing on topics in the humanities and social sciences, and developing your critical thinking research skills. You will have the opportunity to acquire a comprehensive learning and focus on your personal area of interest.

Associate of Science
In the Associate of Science program, you will have the opportunity to focus on one area of study such as biology, chemistry, physics, computing, or math.
“I strongly urge international students to come to Vancouver and choose Alexander College because I think the teachers here teach very clearly and the business and computer science majors are excellent. Your Associate Degree – Completely Online
As an Alexander College student, you have the option of taking your courses entirely online.
In virtual learning courses, students meet in a virtual classroom, using video conferencing software, at a fixed time and date, and the lecturer gives instructions directly to the students.
Now we have introduced Online learning. This format differs from the virtual classroom because the courses offered are specifically designed to be delivered online. During an e-learning course, you will not meet a lecturer in person. Instead, you will have assigned weekly readings and participate in online forums with your instructor and other students in the class. You will be responsible for your online learning schedule and there are no set class times.
